How to Overcome Procrastination
I am a big time procrastinator and here is how I manage my time and tasks efficiently. My story from being a procrastinator to Being a producitve content planner.
Procrastination is a really big problem and it affects your skills and consistency more than anything. I had the same problem of procrastination, scrolling through social media all day and not having any motivation to write. I had misunderstood that motivation comes naturally. I was wrong. Whenever I have new ideas to write something. I didn’t have any motivation to do so. Then I realized that motivation doesn’t come from David Goggins’ videos of running marathons, neither does it come from listening to motivational speakers. It comes from taking action and working on things which will lead to achieving your rewards.
Then I read a book named EAT THAT FROG by Brain Tracey,
At first I thought it was just another motivational book version of David Goggins videos, but surprisingly, it has a lot of tips and ways to make yourself productive and consistent through some practices and simple exercises.
Here I will share some of the ways that worked for me and I hope it will work for you too.
1. Fear And Anxiety:
Accept that the real reason for procrastination is fear and anxiety. People are scared of trying new things because they will get judged or be embarrassed. I remember when I started my writing journey I used to make sure that no one of my family or friends got to know about this. They would make fun of me and judge me. But nevertheless, I kept going and surprisingly none of them did what I expected, instead they showed their support and encouraged me to continue.
And even if they judge, you just have to prove them wrong and keep doing what you want to do.
Some of my haters also turned into supporters.
2. Take Small Steps.
Start small and stay steady. When you start something new, your brain is not used to it and often it really feels hard to do something every day. Consistency is really important to improve your skills. I had a similar problem of not being consistent. I used to write 3 or 4 articles in a single day and then write absolutely nothing for the rest of the week. I realized this problem and then decided to set smaller goals daily to make the most of it. It worked for me because it was also easier and more enjoyable.
You should set goals according to which you can achieve easily.
You can achieve the biggest and most complicated job if you just complete it one step at a time.
2. Stay Flexible:
Stay Flexible. Be ready to adapt your plan as you go along. Not everything can go according to your plan. You should be flexible enough that even if any minor inconvenience happens, you can quickly come up with a solution. It could be anything that could disturb your work. You should be flexible enough to overcome any obstacle.
4. Visualize Your Success:
Visualize your success. Imagine the results if you start implementing your idea consistently. It really helps me to stay dedicated and focused. When I started my writing journey, my mind could only think about two things continuously. “What if it doesn’t work” and “What if it does”.
I focused myself on the positive side. You just need to believe in yourself. Every successful person starts from zero and becomes successful. Why can’t you?
5. Stay Accountable:
Share your idea with someone you trust. They can hold you accountable, encourage you and support you till you achieve your goals. Sharing something with a trustworthy person makes you work harder to achieve your goals. Even if you’re not where you want to be, your friend will always be there for you to support you.
Final Thoughts.
Remember that taking action is often the most challenging part, but it’s also the most rewarding. By following these steps and maintaining a positive mindset, you can move closer to making your idea a reality.
